Like generations of TLCers since the early days of camp, before every performance at OTW, the girls sing camp songs written by campers throughout Tripp Lake’s long history, as well other songs that have been sung during past Sing Songs. OTW is one of the oldest buildings at camp. In many ways, Over the Wall is the emotional heart of camp, and campers and counselors look forward to the special evenings there.
The theatre program caters to the budding actress or the more casual participant, as well as girls who are interested in learning set construction, lights, make-up or costumes. There is also a camper talent show and a staff talent show for those who wish to take center stage and perform something special for everyone. Each age group, as well as our staff, puts on a show for the rest of the camp during the summer. Campers have many opportunities to perform and work in the theatre, onstage and off. Word got out that the bell had been brought back to Monroe. Mounted above a well-house, it stayed there until the property was sold. When the neighbors declared the bell a noisy nuisance, it was removed from the belfry and moved to Gratis, Georgia. As the venue for our Youth Theater Camp, it’s still used to educate kids. Eventually, the City of Monroe granted On Stage the use of the facility.
It sat vacant for a while then briefly became a coffee house where local teens hung out. Later the famous Monroe Girls Corps practiced here. Her students presented programs and pageants. Mashburn, turned the building into a studio where she taught etiquette, elocution, history and literature. When the congregation dwindled, the last few members donated the building to the Monroe City Schools to be used for educational purposes. Completed in 1910, the structure was built with donations of land, money, materials, and labor. And we have fun Participants are given a box of costumes and asked to tell their characters name and three things. They find out how theatre arts can inspire imagination, support collaboration, improve speaking and reading skills. The theater began its life as the Monroe Primitive Baptist Church. BG OnStage is the resident community theatre of SKyPAC. BEHS Theatre Department is proud to offer our forth ON STAGE Theatre Camp for children. The On Stage Playhouse is located at 215 High School Avenue. With the purpose of "bringing a little culture to our town," On Stage is Walton County's community theater.
